Seasonal Flooding in Venice
Venice is one of the places I have listed in my bucket list of places to see in my lifetime. We were already in Milan last 2008 but didn't have the chance to visit the lovely Venice because of time constraints. However, after learning about the seasonal flooding in Venice, it's best to check the weather and the tides there if you are planning to visit the city.
Venice is a small city in the northern part of Italy in the Veneto region. The city is regularly threatened by flood due to high tides during early autumn and spring and this is a yearly occurrence. So, if you are planning a trip to this grandiose city in the lagoon, make sure that you plan your trip not around the seasonal flooding. It is cumbersome to stroll the beautiful and historical places in Venice if you have to traverse in flood. October and November are usually the acqua alta or high tide months where flooding occurs.

This picture was taken on 27 October, 2012. Tourists had to walk on platforms to avoid the flood waters which rose to 50 inches above normal level.

I love that first photo, I like it that they enjoy the flood instead of being pestered by it.

i never imagined Venice to be flooded like that! bad timing for the tourists.
I didn't know that Venice gets flooded too. I thought it's only in the Philippines, lol! I've never been to that side of the world. It's nice to see it even just in photos.
Poor Venice, according to some studies, due to global warming there will a time daw na mawawala ang Venice, it would be a river then.
A friend of mine once told me that I should never miss Venice for the water level there is getting higher every year and the city might me submerged in water permanently. I hope not. I would like to think that, this friend of mine just experience the seasonal flooding when he was there. Nice Photos by the way.
The first picture seems like they are in a beach and enjoying it, lol. So there is still fun in flooding huh?
Venice is also on our travel wishlist. too bad about the flooding but admire the people hehehewho still find humor under the unfavorable weather condition
I thought only Filipinos can smile during floods. Yung ibang nationals din pala :) And di ko rin alam na binabaha ang Venice.
I never know that Venice is flooded area. I like the first photo it looks like the guys are enjoying in the river.
I have seen the news about the Venice flooding. I am sure it isn't fun when your abode is being flooded so I hope Venice will get dry real soon.

I thought flooding is only in the Philippines! LOL! :-) It's hard to plaster a smile on the face when one gets flooded. I love the first photo. It's heartwarming that these peepz still were able to manage to smile for the camera despite hurdling the uncomfy conditions brought about by flooding.
i never thought Venice also get seasonal flooding. i love the first picture, they look so cool inspite of what's going on. :) anyway, kaya its always better to check the places you're traveling to bago puntahan, mabuti ng handa. :)
You guys are indeed right, I thought only 3rd world countries experience such kind of flooding. Somehow, it strikes as a global concern, kinda alarming though.

I've been there in 2008 and it's hard to imagine the flood waters and the water from the canal all over the place. Piazza San Marco's architecture is splendid! although, Venice has been sinking for years.
thanks for dropping by my blog Ria. I'm so sorry that I couldn't drop by here sooner. Hurricane Sandy left us with a 'new normal.' To answer your question nga pala about losing weight and keeping it off - well, I became a vegan for a good three months then switched to pescetarian diet. it helped that I have significantly cut back on my favorite baked goods also.
