Different Types of Travel Insurance

If you're planning a holiday, you should already know that there are plenty of different travel insurance options out there to suit your requirements and your budget. Whether you're after a short beach break or an adrenalin-fuelled skiing holiday, it's necessary to select the right level of insurance for your trip and ensure that any particular activities such as off-piste skiing or extreme sports are taken care of.

Here are some of the main types of insurance you should be aware of:

Annual & single trip cover
Annual cover is ideal for frequent travellers, as it means that all of your standard trips are protected for an agreed period of time - usually for 12 months. This is generally the most cost-effective option and means you don't have to worry about organising cover for the rest of that period. The alternative is of course single trip cover, which provides protection for a one-off trip and is best suited to people who aren't planning to take more than one trip within the next 12 months.

Group travel
If you're travelling with a large group of friends or family, group travel insurance is often a great way to save money and ensure that everyone is covered. It can often be tailored to suit your main requirements too.

Cruise
You might not realise it, but if you're planning a cruise you will benefit from an additional level of cover that can protect you against various eventualities, such as baggage problems, lost valuables and shore excursions.

Winter sports

It goes without saying that if you're off skiing or snowboarding this year, you'll need extra cover to protect you against accident or injury while you're on the slopes. In addition to some of the standard travel insurance protection of missed departures and lost baggage, winter sports cover will provide additional protection to suit your activities, which offers complete peace of mind - allowing you to get on with enjoying your week on the slopes!

I think when you book for a flight an insurance is already included for your baggage and other events.

We don't usually avail of travel insurances, this post made me think twice, though.
