Vacation Is Over
Breakfast at Bryant Park, Manhattan |
Hubby and my mom-in-law flew from Manila and were able to catch the second flight from Dubai to New York. My daughter and I, on the other hand were already in the first flight which arrived around 08:30 in the morning, NY time. I was really worried because I was not sure whether my hubby and mom-in-law got in the second flight and thank goodness for inflight technology, my hubby texted me while he was cruising at a high altitude via the aircraft's mobile technology. After getting hold of him on the phone, I took a sigh of relief. So, we just waited for them in the arrivals area of JFK International Airport for 6 hours. I was comfortable waiting than exposing myself and my daughter by taking the subway. My cousin had told me so many untoward incidents lately and it wouldn't be safe for my daughter and I to travel the subway just by ourselves with a big luggage to lug around. No sir!
We enjoyed our stay despite of the extreme cold. My sinusitis was very active the whole time. My face flushed and cold. My lips cracked and my fingers turned violet for some time. I didn't realize that the weather could be that harsh when we thought it was already spring. So, I was expecting a spring kind of temperature. Now I know.
Niagara Falls, US |
I'll be posting pics soon. I just have to clean up the mess, unpack, and collate the pics from the camera. I will be posting reviews of the 2 motels/inns where we stayed at. They're not very fancy and my expectations were totally nil. However, I will give a very detailed review about them so if you decide to visit Niagara Falls, you will consider whether to stay or not.
Well, it's good to be home again. I still want the vacation to be longer but the funds are getting very, very low.

I've been always advising my friends and other people not to come to New York or anywhere in the northeast coast in early spring. Technically, it's always like that---spring in the calendar, but the winter temperatures still hang on till late April. I've been telling them to come in early to mid-May or better yet in June to August to enjoy the "gala-gala" outdoors. This happened to my cousin too last year, when they also came at the same time you did , and they also stayed in New York and drove up to Buffalo to see Niagara Falls, and so disappointed because they couldn't really enjoy the outdoors . They managed to take pics instead for a few minutes and then rushed back to the hotel....so I told them, "what's the point of you trip, if you just stayed in your hotel room all day?" They swore they would never come to the northeast coast again in such time. If you had come in a little bit later time like May, you would enjoy the early evening fireworks outside, lounging on the park , riding the Maid of the Mist just simply enjoy the falls better. My husband and I love to lie down on the soft grass on the park , and doze off with the sounds of the rapids lulling us to dreamland. I have pics posted on FB.
Anyway, I'm glad you managed to enjoy it despite the bitter freezing weather. I can't even imagine being there at this time :-)
What a pleasure it was for you to have a vacation of 10 days. The most number of days that I can get off at work is just 4... Hope that you can also post your itinerary, it could be helpful for those traveling to NY.
Wow, this is awesome, wish one day we can visit that place too... hope to see some of your pics too sis.. have a great day!
travelling with family is precious. good thing nakisama ang weather on your 2nd trip to Niagara Falls, one in travel my bucket list. glad to know you are back home safely. :)
Great vacation with your family. Sure you enjoy every minute of your 10 days bonding with love ones. Very harsh pala , the weather in NY.
Wow, ten days is actually a long vacay sis..It's nice to know that despite the cold weather, you had fun visiting family!
I really envy people like you who get to travel and have vacations in other places. Traveling must be quite an experience.
wow, this is great to know that everyone made it, remember reading your fb status regarding flights...i bet you all enjoyed those 10 days! can't wait to hear more of your stories, and i hope our family can visit that place someday! have a rest for now, xx
glad the second visit turned out well for you Ria, I know how disheartening it can be when we do not get our expectations. you are blushing pinkish from cold which actually look so good on you, love the smile and the pinkish glow. we almost had the same dates for vacay, only that my spring break started march 29th.
Good to know you all landed in New York and went back home safely.March is kinda not the best thing if you want to travel to North area considering there will always unpredicted weather and this year is a long winter for all of us and so slow.
I have a very close blogopal living in the big apple and though spring has officially set it, the wintry temps still never cease to bug her.
So this was the reason why you've been in absentia at FBF for a time, Sis! I am glad you've had a happy adventure with your entire family. I've read and commented at your Niagara post last night when I did my ABH. NYC is also in my bucketlist ;-)
Thanks sis. Well noted na po :) I've spent spring in NY last year but it wasn't as harsh as this year. So I thought, siguro meron ng blooms and the weather will be inviting. Hay...
Anyway, we still had fun. At least, we have experienced weather in sub zero.
Once my daughter enters college, maiiba na siguro ang time ng vacation namin pa-US. We just have to make do with her school bring which is always around end or March to mid-April and the Christmas break which is winter in US.
Our company gives us 30 days vacation leave and it's up to us to use it in one go or split or however we wish it used.
Our itinerary in Niagara Falls is quite simple. We only considered visiting the state park, Seneca Niagara Casino and the outlet malls near Military Road/Niagara Falls Blvd. We've been to Manhattan several times so we didn't venture much.
Thanks for your comment :)
I hope you get to visit the place sis. Ang ganda talaga. God is really awesome, He makes beautiful vistas as this. :)
Thanks sis. We always travel as a family. Bihira kami umali ng kami lng mag-ina or in split parties. We have our annual family trip and we do make it a point to spend quality time together no matter which part of the globe :) Family time is indeed precious! :)
Sobrang lamig Kuya! Akala ko kaya ko lamig, hindi pala! Ayaw ko na magpunta dun ng ganun time. Spring daw pero winter pa pala...LOL!
We're blessed to have been given 30 days vacation leave to use according to our liking. And yes, despite the cold weather, we still had fun. :) Thanks for your comment. Hope to see you back in my blog. :)
Hi Teresa. Naku, don't envy us :) Magastos magbyahe but the plus side is, we get to see places, soak in other countries' cultures and rich history and learn a lot along the way. We consider traveling as a cultural learning experience. Thanks for your comment and hoping that one day, you'll get to travel around the globe. :)
Oo nga sis. I was in total panic mode na nun but God is really good. I was thinking nung hindi pa tumatawag si hubby ko na nakasakay sila na kung ano gagawin namin mag-ina dun ng kami lng.
Is your hubby from the US? If so, do encourage him to go from state to state. Madami pa kaming ie-explore sa US and we're looking forward to visit a different state naman next time.
Thanks for the comment :)
You're right sis. I almost got my heart broken nun pumunta kami sa Niagara the first time and all we could see were mist and chunks of ice and not to mention, the biting cold. Buti na lng at tumaas ang temp nung April 4 so before leaving, we had the chance to see the falls up close. Ang ganda-ganda talaga.
Siguro, our leave dates will change na once my daughter starts college kasi maiiba na ang vacation breaks nya.
I love all your pic esp the ones in the canyon. Hindi ba nasa film yun ni James Franco? Yung na-hulog sya sa crevice ng canyon? The place look very familiar. I must have seen it in pictures lalo na yung undulating formation ng walls ng canyon. Spectacular. Siguro, next naman namin sa West coast naman. ;)
Thank you sis. :) We're glad we managed to enjoy the vacation even if the weather was not cooperative. Oo nga, extended version ang winter. We even visited Brooklyn Botanic Garden pero handful pa lng ang blooms. We missed the Cherry Blossoms bloom this year. Next year na lng ulit :)
Hello sis, thanks for your comment dun sa isa kong blog. :) Truly appreciate it.
Hala, punta na sa US at maglagaw-lagaw to the max!
Yup, 10 days in absentia from dear FBF kasi po ako'y nagliliwaliw...hahaha. You should visit NY and you should visit soon! :)
a friend of mine who lives in NY always complain about the cold weather although it's already spring time. He can't wait for his vacay here in the Philippines so he can escape the cold for a while. :)
I'll check out the pics of your NY trip. it must be very interesting.
Awww! I am so glad that you get the chance to see the beauty of our Niagara Falls, we are only 45 minutes from the magnificent falls :-) Yes! it is very cold in Western New York and am so sick of this bitter cold :-( All I want is to wear my flip-flops, tank and shorts and enjoy the warm summer
:-) Vacation is the most wonderful thing to do with family and am glad that you get the chance to bond with your family :-)
Wow! After all the hiccups, the family was able to have fun for a 10-day break! :) That was fun, for sure.
That sounded a fabulous vacation. Despite the cold weather still you managed to roam around the lovely City. I can't wait to see that place too. You have a beautiful smile on your photo at the Niagara falls.
